Spring Highlights

Well it’s been an action packed term, full of exciting activities which have ignited our children’s love of reading and writing!  Here are some of the highlights….

In March, the whole school enjoyed celebrating World Book Day. Do you recognise any characters in the Hermitage Fashion Show?

Nursery: Teresa Class are now expert story tellers of the ‘Ginger Bread Man’!  They have been retelling the classic tale with actions, props and even special parcels to help them with sequencing the story!  The aroma of ginger fills their room as the children have made ginger bread men and even ginger tea!

Year 2: There was an incident in Mandela Class! There had been a disturbance and they weren’t sure who it was. So they had to look at the evidence and think about who could have made the horrible mess. Together, they came to the conclusion that it was Dr Frankenstinker.

Year 3: Yousafzai  Class were extremely lucky, as they had the great honour of meeting the highly acclaimed author and  Children’s Laureate, Chris Riddell, on World Book Day!

“We loved watching him draw his illustrations LIVE! And we love the design features of his ‘Goth Girl’ books. Our favourite part was actually getting his autograph on our books!” Yousafzai Class

Year 4: After writing their own mystery stories set in ancient Egypt, Menchu Class held a special ‘Mystery Afternoon’ where parents and friends were invited to travel back in time…to the land of the pharaoh’s and hear tales, revealing the mysteries of the pyramids!

Year 5 and 6: Our Upper Key Stage 2 classes have been studying the events of World War One and after reading war poetry and visiting the Imperial War museum, they were compelled to write their own, sharing them with the school in a poignant, heart-felt assembly.
