Brick Lane Bookshop visit
Brick Lane Bookshop Visit
What an exiting week we’ve had at Hermitage! Last term we launched a reading competition across the school to see which children could impress their teachers the most with their efforts in reading. There were four winners from each class and for their prize they were invited to visit Brick Lane Book Shop to select a book of their very own choice. The children and staff enjoyed this trip immensely, as it was wonderful to see how thrilled the pupils were to be perusing the shelves, flicking through books and savouring texts!
One girl from Year 1 selected a book about Greta Thunberg because she had enjoyed finding out about her in class and wanted to discover me. Another student, from Year 4, decided to chose a book for her brother, as she saw a title which she knew he would love. Two children from Parsons Class decided to pick different books from the Alex Rider series, so they could swap once they had finished. And it was lovely to hear some of our Year 6 children talking fondly about their earliest memories of reading in school, as the ‘The Gruffalo’, ‘Dear Zoo’ and ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ transported them back to their nursey days when their love of books began!
We look forward to organising more book shop visits in the future and until then, keep reading!
